: Hi,
: I am librarian for Inno-centre in Montreal and I am to looking for of examples which could confirm that use of on line viscometer
: is an added value for the company, no waste ot time in th eproduction, on line control and I am looking for $gain!
: Does anaybody has a cas study ?
: Thank you so much.

Hi Liz,
When you are dealing with expensive raw material liquids for process control, the fluid raw material can be very expensive. Foe example, if the fluid medium costs more than $5000/second you have to measure the physical property(for example, viscosity) as well as its quantity transferred and flow rate very precisely.
Viscosity measurement in polymer, paint and lubricant industries is very important to achieve the best quality of the product and this property is also crucial in the control of the manufacture process. Therefore the precise measurement should result in gains for the company. So does the accurate flow rate measurement of liquid and gas.
On the other hand, the measurement of the quantity transferred is important in commercial transactions, i.e., gas station, oil trade..etc.
There are two types of viscometers, say desk top laboratory viscometer to test the liquid sample's viscosity (quality assurance purpose), and on-line viscometers which are employed for the control of the product quality in the process.
When the uncertainty level (in other word, accuracy) is less strict, you can use instrument with less accuracy (i.e. cheaper price consequently). If the process system requires far more accuracy (less uncertainty criterion) , one should employ the more accurate & reliable instrument.
Measuring instruments should be chosen on basis of requiring uncertainty level, control precision, scale and purpose. The decision should be based on the profit and gain of the company.
Best wishes,
rex
